Bernedoodle Grooming

Bernedoodles are big coats and big love — and in Texas heat, the schedule matters more than with any other doodle. At Kay's Groom Room a Bernedoodle groom runs 2.5 to 3.5 hours and prices from $110 to $200 depending on size and coat condition. I line-brush thoroughly, bath with conditioning shampoo, high-velocity blow-dry, and clip to a comfortable length — usually shorter than owners first ask, because the coat traps heat and mats fast here. I take breaks during long sessions so your dog stays comfortable. Every appointment is one-on-one in my in-home studio in Seagoville, TX. Bernedoodle owners come to us from Seagoville, Mesquite, Balch Springs, Kaufman, Forney, and across southeast DFW.

What a typical Bernedoodle session looks like

  1. 1Arrival and a calm settle — big dogs need breathing room on the table
  2. 2Full line-brush and honest mat assessment
  3. 3Warm bath with conditioning shampoo and thorough double rinse
  4. 4High-velocity blow-out to remove loose coat and open the curl
  5. 5Clipper body to summer-appropriate length, hand-scissor face and feet
  6. 6Scheduled breaks for water, a stretch, and a stand-off of the table

At-home routine between grooms

  • Line-brush daily with a slicker and metal comb — the thick undercoat hides mats at the skin
  • Check the armpits, behind ears, and around the collar every couple of days
  • Keep fresh water available — Bernedoodles overheat fast in DFW summers
  • Book every 4 weeks in summer; 5–6 weeks the rest of the year

Big coats, big love. Bernedoodles do best on a 4-week schedule in Texas — skipping a cycle often means a full shave-down.

Bernedoodle grooming — FAQs

Bernedoodles carry a heavy coat that traps heat. In DFW summers, that coat plus 100°F days is a real heat-stress risk, and matting accelerates when dogs pant and sweat through the paws. A 4-week cycle in summer keeps the coat short enough to stay cool and workable.
